Sheriff Michael Donato

Biography

Sheriff Michael Donato is a lifelong resident of Cumberland County.  He graduated from Millville High School and attended Cumberland County College (now Rowan College of South Jersey) for Criminal Justice.

Sheriff Donato’s extensive law enforcement career spans from 1994 through 2020.  He began working in the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office working in the County Jail, the County Courthouse, and the County Narcotics Task Force.  He worked for the Bridgeton Police Department from 1998 through 2005 in the Uniform Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, and then was assigned to the County Narcotics Task Force.

In 2005 Sheriff Donato was hired at Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and worked there for 15 years.  He spent many years of his career assigned to and supervising the Major Crimes Unit and the Organized Crime Bureau.  Sheriff Donato was promoted to Detective Lieutenant in August of 2016 and supervised the Legal Bureau before retiring in March 2020.
